Bottled Water Industry Growth

According to Peter S. Green’s Bloomberg article, “The Life of a Plastic Water Bottle,” the bottled water industry grew by almost 9% in 2011.

The good news is that the article attributes this growth to consumers’ wiser choice of H2O over more sugary beverage options.  Three cheers for hydration and health!

The bad news is that the article also attributes the increase to consumers’ preference of bottled water to tap water.

To me, it seems people generally grab a bottle of water because it is quick and easy.  However, simply filling up a reusable container can be just as convenient.  It also produces less waste and saves you money.

My personal favorite water bottle is made by Lifefactory.  It is a glass bottle, which means it is BPA, phthalates, PVC, polycarbonate, lead, and latex free.

Glass, you scoff!  What if I drop it?!  Well, it is also covered in a durable silicone sleeve.  The best part is that these sleeves come in a variety of fun colors, so you can choose whichever shade best fits your personality.

  1. Great idea, Margaret! Just this morning I heard on the news that today’s children are not getting the fluoride they need because they are not drinking tap water. Fill up those bottles to get your fluoride!
